Q&A Nathan Perrott

1. HI Nathan.

Is it frustrating to be considered sort of the "third string" enforcer on the leafs?
Do you feel you have other strengths that can make you a regular in the leafs lineup or do you think you need Tie to retire before you get your true shot?

answer

I don't consider myself "third string" I am a member of the Toronto
Maple Leafs and I have pride in the fact that I made the team and I
will continue to work as hard as I can to stay on the team and increase
my role.

2. I notice you've potted 15 goals this year with the baby leafs. Do think spending this year in the A has helped your game?
How many are you going to score with the Leafs (big club) next year?

answer

I was happy to have the chance to play this year because they could
have locked me out. The NHL is the best league in the world so it would
be difficult for me to put up the same off. numbers next year
considering my role in the NHL.

3. What do you find is the biggest difference between playing for Toronto and playing for the Predators?

answer

Well the biggest difference is taxes, Seriously , Nashville was great
but Toronto is the greatest hockey city in the world and was my team
growing up in Owen Sound.

4. Hi Nathan!

Thanks so much for taking time to answer our questions.

My question isn't really a hockey question, but I think it's important to bring this up. We've read and heard in your interviews how you are going around to different schools and talking to the kids about being bullied. I think that is a really great thing you are doing.

For all the kids and parents who read the board, can you tell us a little bit about what you do and what kind of advice you give to kids that are bullied or to the parents who have children that have either been bullied or have been the bully themselves.

answer

Bullying is serious, we want child to know that they need to tell a
teacher or parent when they are bullied so they can feel safe and help
the child doing the bullying because they need help.

5. Hi Nathan

Thanks so much for participating!

I attended my first ever AHL game on January 28th. My daughter and I and another forum member, dee, made the trip down to Cleveland to visit beergirl and see you guys take on the Barons. We were fortunate enough to sit 2 rows behind your bench for the third period. It was such a thrill to be able to cheer you guys on to a shootout victory and give you all high fives as you left the ice. That was amazing! There were just a handful of us Leafs fans at that game. When the big club is on the road, there are always Leafs jerseys in the stands, but what about you guys, do you get a fair share of fan support when you're on the road?

thanks!

answer

we don't get the same support as the big club I think its the whole
league doesn't have as much fans.

6. Hey Nathan, I know you were born in Owen Sound, I was just wondering if you grew up there, too? Also, how has your recovery from your eye ailment helped your game this year?

Thanks,

Jordan
Port Elgin, Ont.

answer

I was born in Wingham Ontario, I did grow up in Owen Sound. And the
eye therapy helped a lot I had a career high in goals this year.

7. Hi Nathan,

What would you say has been the biggest challenge to cracking the Leafs lineup on a fulltime basis?

answer

The leafs have lots of talent and experience so it makes it hard to
stay in the line up but I improved my game for being around and
practising with such great players.

8. HI nathan
I AM A SOLID COVENTRY BLAZE FAN
and i was wondered have you ever thought about coming over to england to play like wade did thanks bye
chelsea

answer

I have no plans on playing in England right now but maybe one day
.

9. Hey Nathan,

Do you think you could take Domi in a fight?

Andy

answer

To be a fighter in the NHL you have to believe you can beat anyone in
a fight, but I'm glad we are on the same team.

10. Hey Nathan I wish you and the team the best when you start playing again. If there was one person in the NHL (past or present) that you would want to fight with who would it be and why?

answer

I have never thought about that, I play hard and fight when it
helps my team so for me fighting is a way to help the team not to satisfy
myself

11. hey Nathan, what does it feel like to have Jason MacDonald as a teammate after you had that fight with him last year when he was on the Rangers?
-Jordan

answer

I have been friends with Jason for a while and we have fought a few
times in our careers so its just apart of being a player.

12. Hi Nathan,

Were you a leaf fan growing up? If so does it seem like a dream to play for your favorate team? If not how is it to play for a team with so much media attention.

answer

yes the leafs were my favourite team and playing in the NHL is a
dream come true.

13. Hey Nathan,

Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy scheduale for us, Im sure I speak for everyone when I say that it is greatly appreciated.

My Question is a two parter. I'm sure you've been asked this a million times, but Im just wondering, Has there ever been an instance where you dropped the gloves with someone and when the dance was all over, wondered what you were thinking?? And lastly, Im just wondering who you looked up to as a youngster, who was it that made you decide, 'hey, I wanna be an enforcer'. Thanks again for your time.

-Matt Kameka
Orangeville, Ontario

answer

I don't think about it I enjoy the competition and this is the best.
I looked up to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

13. hey Nathan

we saw that you had the hardest shot for the Leafs and you won the fastest skater competition contests. What was your reaction when you saw that you won both contests?

thanks
doctorkong

answer

I was happy because I broke 100mph

14. What do you think of the rule changes being tested in the AHL this year? Which ones would you like to see in the NHL, if any? Are there any other changes to the game you'd like to see?

answer

I don't like the changes they made. I think the goalie one maybe
used in the NHL

15. Hey Nathan,

What are your thoughts on the proposed 20 teams making the NHL playoffs?

answer

I think it would be great if 20 teams made the playoffs. Playoff
hockey is the best.

16. Hey Nathan, hows life?

I've been to all the Babyleafs vs. Hamilton games over here .. and well i really enjoyed getting to see you play. I like the agressive side in you and how you never backdown from a challenge. My question is, who has been your overall favorite guy to fight with from the AHL,and then from the NHL? My other question is, who on the team do you get along with the best?

thanks for quenching my hockey thirst with those amazing games! ( was sad that you didnt play the last time on april 1st)
Have a great day and Good luck in the futur

from Stephanie ( leafgurl15)

answer

I think I have no one that is a favourite fight because it is very
difficult and when you make a mistake it really hurts. Matt Stajan

17. Hey Nathan, thanks for taking the time to do this.

My question is, How hard was it coming back from that foot injury you had this year, and are you 100%? Also, with Manitoba coming up in the first round, can we expect any fights, or will you be solely focused on scoring? (i know i would love to see a bit of both!)

answer

My foot is not 100% yet the docs say it will take 6 months. Sorry I
didn't get a chance to answer before the playoffs but there was fights.

18. Hi Nathan thanks alot for doing this for us we really appreciate it.
Who has been your toughest opponent in a fight and why? Thanks again and good luck in the playoffs, you guys were really missed this year for us NHL fans.

Caper,Cape Breton,Nova Scotia.

answer

Jamie Allusion, got the better of me and I think he broke a bone in
my face but I'm not sure I didn't get a x-ray. was a good fight.

19. Hey Nathan,

I just wanted to say good luck to you and the rest of the team in the playoffs. Who was your first NHL fight against, and did you get the win? And also, how's Jackman doing? You guys still keep in touch?

answer

First fight was with Jody Shelly I did win but he has a heavy punch.
Jackman is doing well and we do keep in touch.

20. Hi Nathan.

Thanks for agreeing to answer our Q's!
Hope you won't mind me being greedy and asking two!

I'd just like to ask if it annoys you when people label you as an enforcer or fighter. You have put some pretty good numbers with St. John's this season and really helped David Ling and Kyle Wellwood deliver offence. Was increasing production something you made decision to work on, or has it come more naturally to you?

Also, righty or wrongly the MLSE are moving their farm team to Toronto, do you feel this year has been a good way to say good-bye to the NFLD fans & would doing well in the playoffs make it a little more special than usual because it is the baby leafs last year?

Thanks for answering and all the best for the Calder Cup Playoff

answer

I don't mind at all. I work very hard to be good at what I do since
I'm not a naturally goal scorer this fits better
