QUOTE (Preisst @ May 12 2009, 04:52 PM)

1. When did the NHL first implement regular season overtime?

2. When did the league discontinue regular season OT?

3. When was the last game of this first implementation and who played in the game?

4. When did the league reintroduce regular season OT?

5. Who played in the first game after regular season OT was reintroduced and what was the result?

1. Overtime was introduced with the game when the NHL formed in 1917. From 1917-18 to 1920-21, regular season games were played until a winner was decided regardless of how long it took. In 1921-22, if a game remained tied at 20 minutes of OT, it would end in a tie. In 1928-29, the league dropped "sudden death" OT and instead played a 10 minute OT where all goals would count, but would still end in a tie if one team was not in the lead at the end of the 10 minutes.

2. November 21, 1942 - OT was discontinued because of wartime restrictions on train scheduling during the 1942-43 season.

3. November 10, 1942 - The last OT game finished with the Rangers beating the Blackhawks 5-3 (they played a full 10 minute OT, instead of sudden death).

4. At the start of the 1983–84 season.

5. October 8, 1983 - Bob Bourne scored the first overtime goal in an NHL regular season game in nearly 41 years, in a 7-6 Islanders win over the Capitals.

Oops sorry my mistake. #4 was correct and I entirely missed mentioning #5 which is the one you got incorrect and I think you mis-read the question.

I see... I mentioned the first OT winner.

5. Who played in the first game after regular season OT was reintroduced and what was the result?

The first games to go to overtime happened on October 5, 1983, a day after the season opened, when the Minnesota North Stars and Los Angeles Kings played to a 3-3 overtime tie, and the Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets played to a 6-6 tie. Not sure who played first, didn't look into it that much. wink.gif

What do the numbers mean in your subtitles Priesst?

Not much. Just use them as a reference for myself to verify the answer.
