Leaf Fans lose only because they didn't get their big name, big splash etc. That is what we all wanted I think, including myself. I was upset Cowen slipped to Ottawa but considering the Leafs luck with injuries with regards to draft picks I feel a bit better. These Draft Reviews show that sort of bad luck.
At least two NHL GM's thought Kadri was better than MPS. That leaves us with an Ontario native whom Murray coveted. TSN's draft rankings aren't the Bible for drafting.
I think Kadri has more potential to flourish offensively in the long run (at LEAST 2 years from even making the NHL) and play on the first line while Schenn will be a very good third-liner almost right away (I think he is a year away from the NHL) and maybe develop into a gritty second-line playmaking center.

QUOTE (Daddio @ Jun 26 2009, 11:58 PM)Brian Burke couldn't move up into the top three. I have no problem with that. I had a feeling he was blowing hot air. But, to not be able to move up to pick Schenn is really lame. Kadri is a nice fellow. However, he will be nothing but a soft second line centre on a contending team. I could even have forgiven Burke for that if he had been able to draft another solid prospect in the first round, but his ego was too messed up from not getting Tavares or Schenn that he could no longer function. He wanted to pull a deal with Ottawa because he heard the Senators wanted Kadri. When Ottawa didn't play ball he picked kadri just to spite Brian Murray. The Senators then went on to pick Jared Cowan, the shut down defenseman Toronto could have had if Burke wasn't so bent on revenge. Brian Burke is a ego maniac just like Mike Milbury was with the Islanders. Now Burke is so bent on revenge and purpose that he will go out and spend everything he has on the cap just to get enough points next year try to contend and to also not to get another high draft pick. After all pride is everything for Burke, whether it is productive or not. I say he is a coward and a fool. It is very evident that Richard Petty and the Teacher's Pension group are still calling the shots. Just get us into the playoffs and maybe win a round. That's all we need to make a whole lot of money. Who cares about the Leaf fans. They have Luke Schenn to cheer for, that's enough for them. Sundin use to be enough for them before, and before that Wendel Clark was enough. Just keep telling Leaf fans how you're going to build a championship team without high draft picks Mr. Burke, they will believe you and we will make lots of money. Leaf fans would have been way better off with Joe Nieuwindyk as General Manager. He's at least as smart as Burke and I Know he doesn't have the ego problems that Brian Burke does. I have been a Leaf fan for 52 years. You know what? I really like the way Tampa Bay is building their team.

QUOTE (Daddio @ Jun 28 2009, 07:47 AM)You're right about LaCavillier. Who ever signed him to his present contract should be committed, but the fact that they achieved two franchise players in two years of drafting indicates that they will be able to compete for the cup in fairly short order. If Lawson can trade Vinny for a couple players say for argument sake: a top 4 defenseman and a top 3 forward, that would get them even closer to playoff success. Tampa Bay pretty much have their core players to build a Stanley Cup contender.
No it doesnt, the draft means nothing without the ability to develop a player into his long term role. The fact they're rushing their prospects shows a real desperate need for fans which may ultimately ruin their prospects chance at success. And at the end of the day, its not who gets drafted first, its who is the most willing to achieve their dreams after their draft, the number means nothing, it just dictates who was believed to be the most ready, or the first develop. If we take a Detroit-like approach and mold our prospects into their roles, we will have a contending team for years to come, we are not steps behind Tampa Bay, we are where our development stands, and only the future of these players will portray the winner of the "rebuilds".

QUOTE (DuncanMarkovOverKaberle @ Jun 26 2009, 11:23 PM)Who cares what you project? I'd rather see what NHL scouts and executives project thanks.
Couldnt have said it any better lol. This guy has clearly not seen Kadri play and has just only looked him up on TSN. Hes actually now 170 pounds and plans on going up 5-7 by the end of the summer into camp. He has unreal offensive potential and is a great player. There is a reason why Ottawa really wanted him and if we passed up on him Dallas would have taken him most likely as they wanted some offence which Kadri def brings you.

I didn't know the legendary Richard Petty had anything to do with this organization? He sure was a FANTASTIC race car driver!
Do you mean Richard Peddie? NO can't be him, it has to be Richard Petty, the legend!

And he isn't soft, he's a gritty player with a lot of skill. He also heavily outplayed Tavares in the OHL playoffs.

Kadri will be a very effective player for this team and fills a hole as well. I think if Kadri had of played for Team Canada then most of these people who have likely never seen him play would have actually seen how great a player he is. He was a shoe-in for Team Canada but suffered an injury which kept him out and actually dropped his draft position a bit which means we actually got an amazing deal at 7th. Team Canada mgmt said that he had a very good Team Canada camp and was going to play a vital role.

You like how Tampa is building their team because they're bottoming out and choosing obvious players? It's also quite ironic you mentioned Burke is a coward when he went for the unexpected player, Kadri instead of Cowan/MPS.
