Hey Matt, I'm looking forward to your next season with the Leafs! Which of the Toronto defencemen would you rather be paired up with to play?
Best of luck next season.

A: For me I like playing with everyone. When I was up in the end of the season I was most consistently paired with Mike Komisarek and I felt we complimented each other well.

What is  the atmosphere in the leafs dressing room is like?

A: We have a great cast of characters in our room. There is so much focus that goes into our day to day routines and we have a great mix of guys that always keep things fun. It’s important to have that balance during a season. We play our best when we are focused, our intensity is up and we are also having fun.

Hey Matt,

There's a lot of depth in the organization coming from the back end, what do have to do to make sure you distinguish yourself from the pack? Do you think instead of playing music in the locker room before the games, they'd get you to sing sometime?

Best of luck next year!

A: For me to succeed I need to play abrasive hockey. I need to play to my strengths, contribute by moving the puck efficiently and chipping in when I can offensively but most of all be dependable defensively and play hard.

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, I was away all weekend. If it's not too late...

Hey Matt,

Given the Twitter wave we can see that the Leafs organization is filled with a few characters. In light of that, I wondered if there was a practical joke that you've been involved in (as prankster or prankee) that really stands out for you. Also, who is the biggest "character" you've come across so far in the Leafs organization?

Thanks,
TI

A: I don’t know if I can pin point one particular prank but I think the biggest character we have is Colby Armstrong.

Matt,

Is there a play you've made so far in your career that you're particularly proud of? What would it be, and why?

When you first heard that you had been traded to Toronto, how did you react?

Has your experience here been different from your time with Boston and Tampa Bay? If so, in what ways?

Which area of your game do you most want to improve, and what are you doing to improve on it?

If you had to pick one song to sum up your career so far, what would it be?

~E~

A:  - My first goal

-      I was surprised and excited I was expecting to be going back to Tampa at that time and there was a lot of turmoil surrounding that organization at that time and it kind of caught me off guard but I was definitely happy to be going to Toronto if I had to go anywhere.

-      They are all different; from the people you meet, the players you play with, you coaching staff and where you are in your life, it all effects what you take out of each situation. I have been very fortunate to be apart of some great organizations and to be around a lot of great people from whom I have learned a great deal from.

-      My consistency I think it is the biggest part of the game especially for a guy in my situation. I need to prove to the coaching staff I am dependable and they can feel comfortable putting me out there.

-      My favorite song right now has to be “Mountain Time” By Joe Bonamassa.

Hey matt, I'm a big music/hockey fan myself. I'm just curious about the steps you had to take to get your music released. Were you noticed before or after you got time with the big club? And what is your absolute favourite song to play?

I also think you should sit down and write us the best damn leaf theme song ever so we can all rock out to it while you guys do your pregame skates every game lol.

A: As I said Earlier I was noticed by L.A. based producer Loren Harriet.  This album was actually recorded two years ago. The process was fairly long, it obviously started with the collection of my own songs and which ones we were going to use. Then it was to choose a band and where we were going to record. We recorded it in between the time when the season ended and I began training, which was about a month. Yes, great idea! I will get working on it now.

Hey there Matt,

Thanks for doing this with us. My question is was there anyone in particular that suggested you make a CD or was it something that you just always wanted to do? Anyone you like to jam with on the team?

A: It was something that I have always hoped I could do but never understood how it would actually come to fruition. Loren Harriet who was the producer on the album was the person I had been searching for to get it done. He saw me play on a television program in Boston and gave me the opportunity to take the steps to release a record. Loren has worked with Bernie Williams, Wayman Tisdale and many other athletes with an interest in music. This would not have happened without Loren, he has an unbelievable understanding of the rigors and focus it takes to be a hockey player and never allowed the music to pull me away from that or get in the way of anything that had to do with hockey

Here are some other questions that people weren't able to ask but I got before I sent them...one is Jay_bo posted on another thread...

17.  when it comes to your overall game, what do you feel is your biggest strength and weakness?

A: I believe my strengths are my skating and puck moving ability. I feel the things I need to continue to improve on are my consistency and not trying to do too much.

18.   My question for you Matt Lashoff is if you could change your name name to Sydney Ovechkin, would you do it?

 Goulet

A: No

19.  Hi Matt,  What is your typical off-season workout routine? What types of foods do you typically eat, and what types of exercises would you typically do to get yourself ready for the Fall? Are you doing anything special this off-season to prepare?

A: I believe I touched on the workout routine a bit above. As far as certain exercises it varies so much. As hockey players we need to be explosive, powerful and strong so most of our workout is based around that, check out the video to see if you can make out certain exercises. Eating is just as important as training we are under a very intense eating schedule all the time, it is just as important to follow it in the summer as it is during the season. The diet is somewhat based off of a Paleolithic diet, but there are certain needs we have as athletes that differ from its outline and every body is different so diets are personally tailored. Every summer we train hard but I usually reevaluate my season and try to build off things or get better on specific areas every summer.

20.   My question is who was your favorite NHL player when you were growing up?

A: Brian Leetch

Hey Matt. I wanted to ask you what was the most profound experience you've ever encountered and how has it effected you as a person and player?

Also, what's the one thing you would say helps brings a team closer and helps them overcome odds when the odds are stacked against them?

One more, as a musician, other then country, is there anyone else in another genre that has helped mold your music in some sort of way?

A: Great question! I am not sure if I can name one specific thing, I am constantly amazed by peoples ability to overcome adversity and how the handle themselves in pressure situations. I believe this is something that has molded me as a player and a person. In the same breath I think that adversity is something that is the biggest catalyst of bringing a team together. You see it every year, a team that battles through a rough stretch and comes out better for it ,is usually very successful in the playoffs. I wouldn’t consider my music as country I believe it is a pop rock album with a blues influence. I touched on my influences above but as well as them I have serious jazz influences as well. There has never been a style of music I haven’t been able to take something from.

Matt, I was wondering which player on the Leafs (or Marlies) do you most like to hang out with?

A: We are a pretty cohesive group on both teams but the guys I was around most were on the Leafs were; Joey Crabb, Luke Schenn, Jay Rosehill.

Whats the feeling in the dressing room when your team is up by a lot? And when your team is down by a lot?

A: The mood in the room was very even keeled and composed. I think when we were playing our best hockey was when we never got to high or too low. We have a nice mix of personalities in the room which keeps guys both extremely focused and loose at the same time.
