Carter a Scare?

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger says that the Blue Jackets would like to deal Jeff Carter at the trade deadline, but the 10 years left on his contract at $5.27 million a season will be a hinderance to any team interested.

Just saying he's available.....but man, would he be of any use to the Leafs now?.....his contract is big as well.

I don't get why the Leafs would see that contract as an issue.

As long as he is playing well, its worth it. If he takes a dive and doesn't play up to expectations and they want to get rid of the contract, send him to the Marlies. They can afford to do that.

I don't want him here. Too many rumors of his backroom behaviors and suchlike. Furthermore, he's another one of those centers who isn't quite the dominant first-line type but is slightly better than your average second-line guy who is oft injured, and we already have that.

Not a real top choice but definitely an upgrade I would think. If he could get rolling mind you he is on a bad team. What would we give up? I say Komisarek straight up lol

If we could land him DO IT. He's big and talented and an immediate upgrade. 5.25 isn't a big hit for a flc it's the term that hurts. As mentioned above MLSE can absorb that cost in his later years.

That's not that big of a cap hit for a top line centre. And he is definately a top line guy, I don't car what anyone says.

No thanks. I don't believe Burke wants this piece of garbage anyway. Save it for someone who might show up in the playoffs.

Honestly, depending on the price it might be a good idea.

No way would I offer what Columbus wants (rumour is they want what they paid, so roster player, first rounder and third rounder), but if we could get him for a roster player and a salary dump I'd do it. Columbus has gotta be getting desperate, and I doubt any GM would pay that much for a player who is signed to a ridiculous contract and spent most of this year either injured or floundering.

Personally I think Carter will stay in Columbus for this year and maybe the Jackets try and get his motor running and swap him next year, or in the off season when his value is higher.

I actually read a rumor on twitter (Dont believe it though) that a trade like this is being worked on

To Tor:

Carter
1st rounder

To CJB:

Grabovski (signed)
Schenn

Apparently Toronto would be getting the 1st rounder (Which will be Yakupov) for taking on such a large contract.

But, I still don't buy it.

Same here, there is risk in the contact and personality but if because of those factors he can be gotten for a reasonable package I'm all for it.

If that is the package I wouldn't care if Carter wa signed for the next 20 years. Getting CBJ's 1st rnd pcik would be the steal of the millenium. I think then everyone would instantly forgive Burke for trading away the 2 1st rnd picks to acquire Kessel.

I seriously just got wood thinking about this possibility.... it's never gonna happen but my god if this did happen my girlfriend won't be walking for a month.

Too good of a deal I think. If this happens I will be starting the Church of Burke as surely he must be a God to pull off a trade like that. I expect radification as an official religion within a week due to the enormous amount of followers that are sure to jump on board.
