I think there is a difference between recognizing that a player needs to continue developing and bashing.

Fame is man-given. Be grateful.
Conceit is self-given. Be careful." - John Wooden

It's nice to see so many people here with positive comments, mindsets towards Kadri. I think sometimes people forget how young this kid is. He's making great strides, but has work yet to do. I think he's at the point however where he needs to stick in the NHL and be allowed to make his mistakes before he'll take the next step.

Putting on some weight, strength without sacrificing his speed would definitely help him though

Here's a good article (direct quotes from the coach) displaying the kind of character this kid has, his listening skills and what Eakins thinks of him. Hard to understand why any Leaf fan wouldn't want this kind of player on their team.

I think most leafs fans want him to succeed and make the team, but also realize that with this player patience for proper development is required.
Looks like he is getting there.
Good to see.

We don't have enough HARD EVIDENCE to determine whether Poy is a superior intellect or not, PuQ. He may well be.

But even if he isn't; he sees things clearly; not through rose coloured glasses.

I see Kadri is 7th on the Marlies play off points list that is not looking so good when he can't out perform Dupuis . Don't think I'll be counting on him to do much more than fill in on the third line again this season and that agitates a lot more than just the opposition .

What do you expect the truth from reporters and his coach ? Get a reality check Kadri is just not ready for NHL play yet and he will never be a star player although with a lot more effort he may see some 2nd line duties if the Leafs don't get some serious help this season in trades and the 2nd line faulters again . The fact is Burke wants bigger tougher guys in the line up and Kadri just doesn't play big .

Neither do the Leafs but that didn't stop Burke either.... and Kadri plays bigger than half the team...

Actually if you compare Kadri's NHL ppg, its the same as Kessel's were at the same age. Not saying they're the same...just pointing out the stats now that you brought it up...

Would be awesome if Kadri eventually developed into something of a mini Scotty Hartnell.

25-35 goal scorer and 50-60 point player that can hit, agitate and score. Hartnell is a winger but Kadri has been used on the wing even though he has played the majority of his hockey as a centre.

Doesn't play big? He plays much bigger than what he actually is. How can you say he doesn't play big. You mean cause he gets knocked on his ***? That's because he is not afraid to get hit and not afraid to dish it out either.

He's also 2nd on the team in scoring and a +5. Not too shabby. I am not saying he is a superstar in any league, I just pointed out what his coach thinks of him. These comments were specific and Eakins did not need to volunteer them by any means.

Kadri is ready for the NHL, I want to see what he can do under a different coach, maybe one with more patience and lets him play his game. One the things I really liked about the article was Eakins talking about not taking away his creativeness.

Nice to see people looking at Kadri in a different yet positive light. Again, I would point back to a former post I made here in this topic about confidence. Confidence is needed to play in the NHL but too much of it can be a hinderance when it becomes arrogance or a feeling of self-entitlement.

You have to remember, most players who get drafted in the 1st round have been stars and superior talents on their teams up until that point, but once drafted they no longer are and have to 'earn' an NHL job. Some can make the transition easily, some can't. And with Kadri the Leafs don't want to make the same mistake they did with Wellwood. A kid with extraordinary offensive skills but doesn't apply himself anywhere else. They want someone who is a well-rounded package and they'll get that when Kadri is ready.

I hope to see him on the team next year. He played well this year (when called up in short parts of the year) and was on pace for 20+ goals had he played a full 82 games. His first full season in the NHL I think we'll see that, if not more, and worst case scenario is if the Leafs decide not to keep him for whatever reasons... A kid with 20+ goals in his first full season will mean some serious trade bait. I think management has handed him correctly (one of the few moves they've done right in 3 years) and it looks promising.

Good luck to him come this training camp!! :)

Why would you say something like that, you have a very discouraging attitude buddy :(

I think Kadri still has tons of potential and could very well be filling a top line spot in the next few years. We shouldn't label a guy at 21 years old, let him develop a few more years before we pass judgement on him. A lot of guys don't jump right into a top 6 position in their early twenties. Just because he isn't Crosby/Ovechkin doesn't mean he won't be a great player in the future.
