Semin is available, but I hope they don't try to get him.

He is a single season 40 goal scorer, but only had 21 this past year. Plus he has Gandler for an agent, which means he will sign a multi-year deal, and if he does well in the first year, hold out for more money before his second season.

For the love of all that is holy... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. I think if anything it'll depends on what happens with Nashvilles free agents but he might end up on that team.

If he signed for a little less than what he'll probably get on the open market pending some moves, I would be interested, but he's going to want to much I bet.

Direct quote from his agent:

"We're looking for significant term - no question about it," he said, "or the amount of money that we feel he deserves."

Well thank Burke for this in advance of not signing him.

Typical agent talk translated it means we want every dollar we can get for as long as we can get it . Don't trust that Burke won't get him if plan A or B fall through .

Burke is not signing anything over 5 years. Plus with the contracts we have at this time unless he unloads someone I can hardly see them signing Semin. Also to complicate matters even more I doubt Burke would commit to any type of UFA contract over 5 years until teh new CBA has been put in place.

I think if anything this might be an interesting year for UFA's as they might have to except less or sign late with a team simply because of the expiring CBA.

If Burke is ever going to get a franchise player he will have to sign a longer term than 5 years new CBA or not top talented players know what they are worth and what they can get elsewhere .
Burke can take his stubborn idealology to his grave but the fact is you can't win a deal unless you get in the game . If he wants a poor mans star player he better stick with Lupul .

He offers more than 5 years, it just has to be an exceptional case...This isn't one of them I don't think.

Semin's 2 big years were when the Caps were a true run and gun team. Now that they have shifted to a more defensive style his numbers are dropping. He had the same point total as last year while playing 12 more games.

I think in Ron Wilsons system it would have been a good pickup, however with Carlyle as the coach I highly doubt this is a player the Leafs will be targeting.

I'd pass on Semin.

But Dustin Penner on the other hand, i;d sign him if we could unload Lombardi and Connolly somewhere. Penner on our third line would bring size and grit. And could move up to the 2nd line if needed. Or sign someone like Prust for our fourth line.

Wow I'm truly surprised here. I thought for sure you would be all over a professional diver to ensure us power play time. God knows JBold can't have any physical play on his favourite teams.

Ohhh this is a carry over from the dying breed thread.

Actually, our "Enfocer" Colton Orr isn't even physical. He's a bum who can barely skate.

Funny how you edited out the other sentence tho. The sentence where I suggested unloading two soft players in favor of signing someone like Penner or Prust.

It'd depend on the deal.

I can't envision a deal Semin would want to make that would be worthwhile for us, so probably pass.

But no harm in getting a price.

He's just another Kessel type player that I don't really want on this team. My friend is a Caps fan and he doesn't even like him.

He's worse than Kess. At least Kess puts up 30 every year.

At least Kessel has heart and determination.

Semin literally just doesn't care.

I wouldn't rule it out for a 1-2 year deal at a reasonable cap hit, but that won't happen. Semin is a former 40 goal scorer and it's not like he's an old man, so someone will overpay.

No thanks to Semin. We've got all the soft forwards we need.

This is not a Burke or Carlyle type player.
