His numbers are not that impressive and I do not even remember us drafting him to be honest. Instead of rushing these guys in like we did with luke freaking schenn, why don't we wait until he actually matures or does something worthwhile!? He's only 19!
He needs to sign a contract in order to play with the Marlies, which is where he will probably end up. How else do you want to build players up, without signing them to a contract?

Being signed doesn't mean he's being rushed, they are just assured they get to hold onto his rights at the least, and possibly play with the Marlies. His numbers are not that impressive and I do not even remember us drafting him to be honest. I hate the ideology that a player has to put up points to have an impact during a game, especialy d-men. This guy is a solid young player that played a big role on a SEL finalist team. The obvious next step in his development is to bring him over to the marlies where he can learn the north american game, while under the watch of the Leafs system. The SEL is a VERY good league. The transition to the Marlies shouldn't be that difficult for him considering his style. He might be taking Holzers spot on the Marlies if he gets promoted next year. That would be the logical role for him to fill. His numbers are not that impressive and I do not even remember us drafting him to be honest. They also said Gus was gonna be a great goalie.......I may be a synic but I do not have much faith in the swedish elite leagueHow is that a critical path? this was a 2010 drafted player, which just now signed.
They compare him to Gunnarsson with more of a edge, but has potential to be even more physical than he already is.

He signed a player that the organization expended a draft pick to acquire and have now enabled him to continue his development within that organization.

I actually don't know much about him. He's obviously more of the defensive minded guy (from what I seem to remember from him at the world juniors), but he's young and has room to grow with his size by the looks of it.
I think this was/is a good move... To think he broke into the J18 group over there when he was just 14 yrs. old, must say something about his talent & potential... Points (as Fready said above) has become too much of a focus by some of the posters in here... Not every D-man is going to turn into a high-scorer... If he does his job on the D-LIne is what matters the most to me... At 6"3" and 205 LBS. ... and still only 19, he still has room to grow...
..."A big and strong stay-at-home defenseman. Granberg plays a very solid defensive game and rarely gets caught out of position. He plays a simple and safe game with the puck. Does not shy away from the rough stuff, but could probably play even more physical. Hockey sense is decent, but Granberg will never be a high-scoring defenseman."....

What top player for the leafs in recent history has come from the swedish league?
He didn't say anything about the Leafs in that latest post.
I think it's good to check this card now. If he won't be a as good as Leafs tought, Leafs still didn't lose anything.

So in 40 years we have only had TWO good swedish players, and by good I mean they played the game really well. Trust me our track record with swedish players is not that great. We already have a bust in gustavsson. Before that anton straalman.

Nope thats ancient history and besides what did Sundin ever do ,besides be the best player on a less then stellar team. What awards did he win and what did he help the leafs acomplish?
While I am not a fan of Sundin because of the way he left and retired as a Canuck, I have to admit that he was a top player in the NHL.
Pretty sure he was Captain of a Sweedish team that won gold also.
Anyway, not sure why its a bad thing for the Leafs to sign there own draft picks, arent other teams doing this also?
