signs with Habs. Burke will probably say this is no big deal..all part of "the plan."
It was a step up for Dudley. The Habs offered him an opportunity he didn't have here (at least not yet). Burke has been pretty up-front about the fact that when you populate your organization with good people, some of them will get poached. It's all part of the game.

Actually, he's mentioned a number of times he hoped Dudley would hold off until after the draft. I don't think he was necessarily a fan of losing Dudely to a big rival that just so happens to have picks not to far in front of the Leafs.signs with Habs. Burke will probably say this is no big deal..all part of "the plan."

Edit: Bergevin just said he agreed with Burke to not start Rick with the team until after the draft. That's actually pretty classy on their part seeing as they didn't really have to do that.
This is a good thing. Everyone says it doesn't matter because they already know who they are drafting first, however people are forgetting that there are 9 rounds.

They've been communicating with him for the whole time prior, and the Leafs still have all of their scouts who were doing all of the leg work in their own right, so I don't think they would have been that short sighted. If Dudley was the main man scouting for the Leafs, does he screw the Leafs over by keeping his scouting reports to himself?

It won't matter at all and I don't even know why we are discussing this.

Exactly. It's not going to affect the 3rd and 5th picks, Montreal's probably locked into whoever they want in the first round and Dudley's appearance wouldn't have changed their minds. But it could effect the 33rd and 35th picks or the 63rd and 65th.
If Dudley was the main man scouting for the Leafs, does he screw the Leafs over by keeping his scouting reports to himself?
Cause he wasn't sharing those with our scouts while they were working together and he was holding onto them in his top secret vault until the draft right? C'mon man, we already have all of Dudley's work, he's been working with our scouts for the better part of a year. You can't work well with people while hoarding information.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "otherwise you wouldn't have come here."

Who cares.
Dudley is considered one of the best judges of young talent in the league. Hes a great asset to have working in your front office. He seems to have trouble taking a team from rebuilding to being a legit contender so I dunno if I'd want him as the GM of a team, but a great guy to have as your assist GM or head scout.
Maybe the Habs will give us Dudley back if we give them Burke.
