Those who like to praise Burke for assembling a young team full of 1st round draft choices; fail to consider a very important point.
There is a huge difference between choosing a high draft choice; and acquiring a former high draft choice.
When you choose your own draft choice; you are picking a player who has been well researched by central scouting , and on whom, hopefully, you have done your own due diligence. After all this scouting, you may still catch a dud; but at least you are dealing with an unblemished player.
When you acquire a former 1st rounder; you are acquiring a player, who perhaps, originally, showed great promise; but is now considered by his present team; as a player who will never reach his potential.
A risky acquisition at best.
So when counting how many 1st round draft choices we have on our team; chances are the former 1st rounders that we acquired from other teams; are not premier players. Of course, there are always exceptions; but by and large, that's how it works,
Just another reason why I consider drafting your own players, so important in building a winner.
