"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "otherwise you wouldn't have come here."

So Burke was taking this kid to arbitration shortly after Vancouver did it to decrease the salary
of one of their young guns. One would assume that Burke did it with the same intent Gillis
had as Kulemin **** the bed last year 7 goals 21 assists.
Last year Kulemin contract was worth 2.2 million dollars, now instead of decreasing Kulemin's
salary for a very very poor performance last season he is rewarded with a half-a-million dollar
raise per season for the next two years. I hope he turns this dismal season around I don't
want to see another Tucker or Armdog situation here.

Several teams wanted Kule... If he didn't offer a minute increase, we would have easily lost him...I don't understand this signing with Kulemin.

Here it is again... and it is confirmed by TSN, National Post, The Star & here in the Leafs News articles today...
Go to forum about what do you expect out of Kulemin this season. Seer posted an article there.
KULEMIN AGREES TO 2-YEAR DEAL WITH LEAFS

Nikolai Kulemin and the Toronto Maple Leafs have avoided arbitration.
Toronto and the Russian winger have agreed on a two-year, $5.6 million contract.
The Maple Leafs filed for arbitration with Kulemin earlier this month, which was scheduled to begin on July 26. Kulemin made $2.2 million last season, with a salary cap hit of $2.35 million. Had the Leafs and Kulemin gone to arbitration, the team could not have paid him less than 85 per cent of his 2011-12 salary.
The 26-year-old notched just seven goals and 21 assists last season, after scoring a career-high 30 goals and 57 points in 2010-11. Taken 44th overall in the 2006 NHL Draft by the Leafs, Kulemin has spent all four of his NHL seasons with Toronto, scoring 68 goals and 84 assists in 303 career games.

Actually thats true, even got more then the min. 10% qualifing offer. Not sure whatKulemin did to deserve a raise, then again I'm not sure what a lot of players Burke signed andg avemoney too did.

Kulemin didn't just play one season for the Leafs. 15,16,30 and 7 goals respectively. I personally think he got a fair market contract for a 15 goal per season player. Put the "raise" part of things out of it. He's worth $2.8M.
