Those Russians were dominant over Team Q, 5 different goal scorers, among them Yakupov and Grigorenko. It's a little frightening thinking of the World Jr's coming up. Hopefully Hockey Canada can find us a goalie cause I don't know if the Q's Etienne Marcoux will be able to cut it.
Vasilevski in net was especially impressive for the Russians and made some 10 bellers to just stonewall the Q's snipers, Nate MacKinnon and John Huberdeau. Bolts must be thrilled they nabbed another great prospect for their goalie stable, he could end up as something special.

Yakupov was truly amazing to watch in a full game... He & Grig.. were impressive, agreed..!
Vasi was outstanding!! This is why I was so adamant about us picking him last draft.. and why I considered him to be something we needed... Glad you are seeing this now, Taco... I know he is still young & has a lot tyo prove, but I think he is a future NHL star goalie.. Maybe we can get him in a trade..?
Notice how he doesn't get phased at all, with traffic around him..? I'd mention his above average puck handling abilities, too.., but he sort of kiboshed that fact with the one long shootout he made in the 1st half... LOL! He's normally quite effective with his stick...

I saw it last year, I just figured he wouldn't last until our second round pick. And he definitely was not worth our 5th overall, not with Rielly, Dumba, Trouba, Grigorenko, Forsberg, and Faksa all still available. Any of those would've been smarter picks than Vasilevski, and I'm tempted to add Cody Ceci and Teuvo Teravainen to that list as well. Even the Bolts didn't pick him with their original pick (10th), but used the one they acquired from Detroit (19th). I would've been all on board with picking Vasilevski if we had acquired another pick, I was just not on board with wasting a top 5 with better players available and for the record, I still like Malcolm Subban better, I think Subban would've gone higher than Vasilevski if he hadn't been injured, and I'm hoping he'll start the game on the 8th and prove me right. IMO, Boston got Subban at a steal using the 24th pick for him.
The Bolts are deep in developing net prospects after acquiring Anders Lindback from the Preds. If Dustin Tokarski and/or Lindback end up great (or one ends up great and one ends up a serviceable back up) they might be willing to trade Vasilevski in a few years when his contract is up, like the Blues did with Bishop, another goalie who might be great (for the Sens now,

I still believe Vasi will prove to be better than Subb..., but only time will tell this...

On the other angle with the Bolts.., if Tokarski & Lindback DO prove to be solid, they may want to improve in another position and be willing to make a trade faster..? I can only hope..!

I can only hope..!A combo of Reims & Vasi might be a nice future for us.. I would have traded to get him in the draft, if I were Burke, though..
It's not going to happen anytime soon anyway. And if we trade for him, chances are it'll be because Reimer didn't work out.
I mean the Bolts were nervous enough about Tokarski to both trade for Lindback (who is only a year older) and draft Vasilevski. It doesn't scream confidence in Tokarski. Really if you want Vasilevski the only hope is that Lindback proves to be the second coming of Lundqvist, who just didn't get a chance to prove it cause he was playing behind one of the best (if not the best) goalie in the game today, Pekka Rinne.

I'm hoping MackInnon has some magic in him.

I'm hoping a bunch of them have some magic in them.., but yes.., it would be nice to see MacK. get a couple..The Q's chance for redemption tonight.
I'm hoping MackInnon has some magic in him.
It will be interesting to see how they do this time around against the OHL.. I'm even more curious about the WHL match-up.., as we will get to see how Rielly can defend against Yak & Grig...!
