We didn't have one yet, and this impending BLOCKBUSTER deal definitely merits one.

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=409433

One swoop and the Blue Jays are now indisputably the best team in town.

I am hyped now, just waiting for those magical words from the MLB commish making it official.

Also might spell good news for our Maple Leafs. Rogers clearly wants to win in the MLB, hopefully they'll bring that attitude to our Leafers when the NHL starts up again.

"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "otherwise you wouldn't have come here."

WOW...

Thats an insane trade.

Its hard not to be a little excited when we may actually get to see playoffs in Toronto (i thought the city had banned them or something).

It seems like the Jays underpaid a bit, maybe Miami wanted to shed some salary?

I sure hope we dont regret losing those prospects though, especially Nicolino and Alvarez. But i guess on the plus side those guys are in the NL so if they do turn out as expected the jays wont have to worry about facing them.

I went insane with this news yesterday. As a die hard Jays fan who was too young to remember the WS years, this is without a doubt a top 3 moment in my history as a Jays fan....probably #1

I know what you mean, I still remember the back-to-back series wins, but I was a kid then. I loved the Jays but I didn't really follow trades or anything, I just watched the games and cheered my heart out.

I think this is the most excited I've been about the Jays since I sat on my dad's lap and watched Carter touch 'em all.

What's more is Toronto deserves this after putting up with so much ambivalence and stagnation with the Leafs and Raps and TFC. The Jays are saying, with firm definitive conviction, that they are going to compete, that they want to contend and that feels great.

I was 14 years old when the Jays went all the way in 92. I remember listening to the playoff games in grade 7 and later grade eight when they did it all over again. The late great Tom Cheek made the call that he will be remembered for his whole life. But back on track, no question AA plays his cards close, he felt he had a full house here and make no mistake about it he is putting his cards on the table and he wants to go for it!

Rightly so, the AL east is the toughest division there is in baseball. The Jays deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as new york tampa baltimore boston. The jays mean business in 2013, thank you Rogers for doing the right thing. I am really most excited about Maek beurhle, a veteran guy with class and he can pitch, johnson has more upside than even alvarez right now. Jose Reyes is a great leadoff hitter and will take pressure of brett. We have a line-up as good as any in the division now.

I like John Buck, I have no problem with Mathis either, but I know Buck can hit for more power than Jeff can (ie home runs). Look out the jays are serious now!

Johnson has more upside then Sanchez and Syndergaard never mind Alvarez. He's an ace plain and simple, maybe not the top 5 MLB pitcher some thought he was capable of being but an ace none the less. Alvarez seems destined for the bullpen unless he can develop a league average breaking pitch. I know he is young but it is still very unlikely historically. On the plus side for Alvarez, moving from the Rogers center to Miami should immediately bump his numbers, and of course escaping the AL East. That said the NL East has gotten very good over the past few seasons.

I have a feeling Johnson is going to only be here for the one year, but I would be ecstatic if AA could sign him to an extension, even though it would come with some fairly hefty risk. His agent actually made a interesting comment when asked about a possible extension, saying JJ would be open to an extension "if there's a fair sharing of the risk and "as long as the player is happy" The mention of risk was unexpected and I take it as a good sign.

John Buck is terrible. He's better then Mathis but still terrible. I'll take him as a stop gap until TDA is ready though, and he also carries the bonus of being familiar with 4/5ths of the rotation. As for JPA, I hope to see him moved to for some help in LF, someone to platoon with Lind at DH or a 5th starter.

Jose Reyes may be the best SS in AL, and maybe the best SS the Jays have ever had. (Don't kill me Tony Fernandez fans)

The piece I'm saddest about losing is Nicolino, sure he has less "stuff" then Syndergaard and Sanchez but I've always been very high on him. It's kind of ironic we are getting Buehrle in this deal because that's what I envision this kid as, just with a better changeup and worse curve but a solid middle of the rotation lefty, that's effective year after year.

This is huge...

I am so hyped to see Rogers so invested into the Jays..This can only mean bigger and better things for the Leafs...

If Their willing to dump this kind of cash into the Jays....Imagine what their plans are for the Major bread winner of the group..(Leafs)..

Man how I wish the Cap didn't exsist......lol....

The argos have turned themselves around a bit. The jays, (as soon as we hear that this thing is official and I'm sure it will be) have improved their roster now, with this florida deal. Ya you would have to think that rogers is getting serious about putting a winning team out there and bringing respectability back to Toronto that way.

I would hope the leafs would be next, but the salary cap certainly does not help. I'm sure the leafs will work something out sooner than later. The marlies have certainly improved, only a matter of time. I fully expect the raptors to improve as well but they need more time to grow as a team with what they have now and get familiar with each other. I'm also wondering if there are coaching issues with the raptors because they have gotten off to terrible starts lately! And a guy gets injured after just two or three games?

Coaching is the last thing wrong with the Raps imo. I would call it a strength.

AA's is going all out for 2013. It's starting to feel like the early 90's again!

Melky Cabrera signs with the Jays!! 2 yrs, $16 million.

I cannot wait for baseball to start again!

And we got Melky Cabrera now too...so our outfield is looking pretty good...assuming his game wasn't all 'roids related...

Mind blown.

To complete my magic, perfect offseason, sign Jonny Gomes for 2 or 3 mil to platoon with Lind at DH and one more back of the rotation starter.

Getting a bit greedy but it's hard not to when you see a team that suddenly has so few holes.

Cabrera slotted between Joey Bats and Edwin gives the Jays such amazing hitting potential. I hope Edwin repeats last season though and Bautista can stay healthy the whole year, those will factor into their success big time. Lawrie and Arancebia hitting consistently will as well.

I think i might prefer having EE after Bautista but either way its a nice problem to have. The jays are going to have a nice looking lineup (on paper at least) next year

Its crazy, one trade and two free agent signings and suddenly just about every hole on the team was filled..... I wonder if AA knows anything about hockey..... :P

They also still have an extra catcher to deal for one of those spots you want filled so the moves probably aren't even done yet

There is a rumor that the Jays were asking about Marcum (how great would our rotation look)
http://www.cbssports...er-shaun-marcum
*Although this might have been a backup if the mega trade didn't go through

Its so exciting to have a team to cheer for that has a legitimate shot of winning - the only problem is baseball season is so far away and we don't even have hockey to watch to pass the time

I think there is some reported bad blood between Marcum and the Jays front office. I would love to him back though, if they acquired another pitcher to push Romero down to the 5 hole, we'd be laughing. I'm actually somewhat upset about Dickey winning the Cy Young, now it would be a PR disaster for the Mets not to resign him. Given his age and contract status a package with JP as the centerpiece might have been possible which would have made this off season truly legendary.

I agree with you about keeping Bautista an EE together in the 3,4. I see Melky hitting second which makes for a crazy top 4 with Reyes leading off. Two switch hitting former NL batting champs followed by two 40 HR sluggers.
