I for one would hate to see fighting eliminated from the NHL but it doesn't really serve a purpose anymore. It used to be you wouldn't dare take liberties on a team's star player knowing you would have to fight. It irks me when guys like Patrick Kaleta can run around and take shots at Kessel but when he got challenged by Brown he backed down. Is it time the players were aloud to police themselves? Are there too many players that hide behind the instigator rule?

In some ways I feel the same way.... I would prefer the NHL and on ice Officials dealt with issues... however they dont... I recall couple of playoffs ago a Senator player getting face punched with a glove on... the Ref and Linesman right their watching it and then teh next game all kinds of fights, after whistle crap... in my opinion all this was because nothing was done the game before so the players took it in their own hands.... this may be harsh but what I think there should be is anyone pulling needless crap like that gets a fine himself, the coach gets a fine that is double that and the team gets a fine that is double that.,..... LOL Pittsburg would go broke.... LMAO

Definitely....it is a stupid rule and players take advantage of it...goons like Kaletta, Chris Neil, etc. It allows them to do stuff behind the refs back and get away with it because if the other guy retaliates, he's going off too. I don't like it....you used to be able to stand up to bullies and jerks like that now you get penalized for it....stupid!

The instigator rule sucks, it never should of been implemented in the first place.
