....................................................MAPLE LEAFS (4-3-0) @ BRUINS (5-1-1)
....................................................TV: CBC; RDS, NHLN-US
....................................................RADIO:

Leafs Set To Host Bruins At ACC

Season Series:

This is the first of four meetings between the Northeast Division rivals this season. Boston won all six meetings last season, outscoring the Maple Leafs 36-10.

Big Story:

Boston will have to get over the fact that it blew a two-goal lead Thursday to Buffalo and lost in regulation for the first time this season. On the flip side, Toronto is hoping to build off the fact that it overcame a third-period deficit against Washington on Thursday to earn its first home win this season. The Maple Leafs actually have won two in a row, including a 4-3 victory against the Sabres on Tuesday.

Team Scope:

Bruins: In addition to the defensive deficiencies that led to a 7-4 loss to Buffalo on Thursday, Boston also got beat up.

Shawn Thornton sustained a concussion during a fight with Sabres forward John Scott and is expected to miss a week to 10 days. Daniel Paille took a stick to the face from Tyler Myers and i out with an upper-body injury that very well could be a concussion, though the team is not calling it that.

"We're going to deem it an upper-body injury, only for the reason that right now, we don't have all the details," Bruins coach Claude Julien said according to the Boston Globe. "We know he got the high stick, right? Once we get more clarification on his injury, we'll let you know."

Jamie Tardif is expected to make his NHL debut Saturday after being recalled on an emergency basis from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Maple Leafs: Phil Kessel can't buy a goal despite being around the net and getting off some good shots, but the Leafs are winning in part because AHL call-up Matt Frattin has four goals and two assists in four games since he was summoned from the Toronto Marlies.

Frattin scored the winner in the third period Thursday. He's been playing on a line with fellow AHL

linematesNazem Kadri and Leo Komarov, and the chemistry, especially between Frattin and Kadri, is showing.
Kadri leads the Leafs with seven points (three goals, four assists) in seven games. Frattin has gotten ice time due to the injury to Joffrey Lupul (broken forearm), and doesn't appear ticketed for another AHL game for a while, if ever again.

"We've been playing together for a couple of years now. We're able to form some chemistry," Kadri told the Toronto Star. "We have offensive minds and are learning to become more responsible with Randy [Carlyle, coach] increasing our minutes game by game. It shows a lot of faith and belief in us and gives us more confidence."

Who's Hot:

Boston forwards David Krejci and Nathan Horton each carry five-game point-scoring streaks into Saturday's game. Boston forward Brad Marchand had two goals against Buffalo and now has a team-high five for the season. … Frattin has three goals in the last two games and Nikolai Kulemin has three points in the last three games.

Injury Report:

Boston will be without Thornton (concussion) and Paille (upper-body). Toronto has Lupul (broken forearm), Clarke MacArthur (lacerated pinkie) and Mike Brown (shoulder) on its injury list.

Hopefully we don't get completely blown out.

I'd be happy with an OT loss. Compete and i'm good.

How about saying something positive for a change..? You are starting to sound a LOT like someone else in here..

You are like some usual impatient, Leaf fans.. NO patience for the reconstruction of the plays, with RC...

We get the defensive game all together.. THEN.. we can worry about adding more offense.. To not see an improvement in the defensive game so far, is just being blind.. To just complain every day about what needs to be fixed.., yet fail to acknowledge and give kudos to things that are going better, is just being negative.. We've had enough of that around here.. Time to support the team, or find another team to root for..

Go tank on someone else's fan site.. Tanking is for wimps..!

I want playoffs this season..! ...And I am not going to cheer "every season" for a draft pick that "may or may not" turn into something special.. If it happens, great..! If not.. and we don't get the highest draft pick, but get into playoffs.., I will be just as happy.. I'd rather we do it with "honor", than be a woose and tank on purpose, like some people suggest we do.. And if you think RC and/or ANY of the team would agree with your philosophy, you are sadly mistaken..

Nothing will make me happier to see the Leafs push Boston around. Hope Brownie, Orr and this new guy McClaren are in the line-up.

Seeing Thornton get filled last night gave me two emotions: 1. Paybacks are a B*^%h and 2. Wow, Orr did an AMAZING job against Scott.

Going to be devine justice for Kessel to light up the lamp for the 1st time against Boston too!!!

If Thornton is out, I will be fine with Hamilton staying on 4th line... We still have Orr & Fraser to handle things.. and if Mac is back and in a crappy mood, he could be throwing someone around.. (see Canes game, from previous season.. LOL!)

I thought this sounded honest and optimistic. Seer complains about the whiners, but he whines about whiners more.

I think you have to be concerned when one guy(Frattin) is brought in and saves your team. Teams have to be able to compensate for injuries.

More efforts like those of McClement are what is needed. Does Kessel watch him while he's on the bench, or is he yawning?

Kessel is probably wondering who cursed his stick...

This will be a very tough test... I hope last years meltdowns are still not in their heads and that Carlyle works on that.... if they can continue the work ethic as they have should do alright.... this is a game that Reimer will have to win for them....

I wasn't being negative or talking about tanking?

We just usually have a hard time against Boston so i was hoping for a good effort from the guys.

Didn't mean to ruffle your jimmies. Sorry if i'm not planning the parade.

Don't disagree that Reimer will play a big part, but we need to REALLY make a statement this game. Our skilled guys NEED to eat them alive, meaning Kessel needs to show up, and our grit guys really need to take it to them.

Keys to win:

1. Reimer needs to not allow a single weak goal in.
2. Cannot allow Chara to stifle Kessel in (Kessel may have to move to a line with Frattin and Kadri to burn Chara if he spends entire game focused on Kessel)
3. Orr, Fraser, Frattin, McLaren (if he's in line up) need to play old time hockey and push people around...particulary the Lucic, Horton and Kejci line.
