With their strong start they had even some naive leaf fans proclaiming they were Stanley Cup contenders. Now it appears it simply isn't so.
I knew from the start that the habs weren't cup contenders but what has transpired that has made it so apparent that even Nordic would have to admit they are vulnerable?
Other than the two 6 goal fiascos, Price has been solid and I believe he will be better this season than the 'not ready' Price I correctly called last year. However, since the leafs blew them out 6-3, and let the air out of their ego inflated by above par goaltending, the habs have scored a grand total of 9 goals in 5 games. They simply haven't been able to score. As Guy Lafleur once said, they are once again playing four 4th lines.
The Kostitty kids have a grand total of 13 points between them. This is the same as Grabovski alone. Kovalev has 12, two less than Kaberle. What surprised me about Kovalev is that he lasted so long before going into one of his funks. If he starts sulking over it, watch out. These are the guys that aren't getting it done.
Tune in next week for more on the story of the bubble that burst.
