QUOTE (flyerman @ Aug 9 2008, 06:29 PM) well I believe it technically counts, cuz it is a double-live album, released by a studio - it was "recorded" with studio tech BTW, just fyi, there are many "studio" recordings that are actually recorded live. And many "live" albums that contain plenty of studio work done on them. I think if its on a label, released on an official catalogue album, it counts in regards to that rule.
My all-time band draft:
Frank Zappa- guitar, Frank Sinatra- vocals, John Bonham- drums, Ray Manzarek- keyboards, Stanley Clarke- bass, Carlos Santana- guitar, Donald Fagen- piano/backup vocals, John Popper- harmonicas/backup vocals http://chat.mapleleafs.com/index.php?s=&am...t&p=2244252 "Overall, I see this band's sound as a thick, unrelenting wave of uptempo harmonies with a rhythm that would drive forward like tsunami." - RabidFan ![]() "I'd like to thank the Academy...." ![]() ![]() It's a waste of money, you have to admit If it's a waste of money you have to have it. - Kaiser Chiefs The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. QUOTE (Jeribudsboy @ Aug 10 2008, 12:35 AM) Are you done? QUOTE (IstvanTheHun @ Aug 10 2008, 06:34 AM) I have to agree with flyerman on this one. For our purposes, concerts don't count and a live album is a recorded concert. The point is not the studio techies working on it, it's the work done by the artists. Anyway, I don't even know who you're talking about because none of my guys except for EC appear on The Last Waltz. ![]() Oh, and GLG100 picks . . . Charlie Parker ![]() on saxophone |

QUOTE (IstvanTheHun @ Aug 10 2008, 06:34 AM) i'm talking about the "creative" process. the last waltz was a concert film with little or no rehearsal. a "studio" album consists of the writing process and is much different than sitting in with a band and playing a show. claptons performance on the recording of "while my guitar gently weeps" is entirely different from him showing up at winterland and sitting in with __________. yes hes playing guitar on both recordings but the studio atmosphere is a very different experience from playing live. and yes i'm aware of bands recording studio albums live and other bands overdubbing on live recording (frank zappa comes to mind) as a judge i'm willing to interpret the rule on a case to case basis because i have recorded live shows and in the studio and i know what the difference is first hand. an example of a live record that i would consider that the artists were more involved than just "sitting in" would be jimmy page playing with ________________ on "live at the greek" as i said i think we should go case to case on this and being as no one has really picked 2 players that have recorded albums with each other its more of a discussion topic anyway. |

In keeping with the Fleetwood Mac theme, my next pick is an American singer-songwriter, who has collectively produced over twenty Top 50 hits (solo + FM). Her ethereal visual style and heavily symbolic lyrics have brought her critical acclaim and international fame.
She has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, and, with Fleetwood Mac, won the 1977 Grammy for Album of the Year for Rumours, which is now the 10th best-selling album in music history! As a member of Fleetwood Mac, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. In addition to her vocal work, this amazing artist also plays guitar, harmonica, piano, synthesizer, and percussion. Ladies and gentlemen, it is an absolute thrill to be choosing my favourite singer, Stephanie Lynn "Stevie" Nicks ![]() Known as the "Goddess of Rock", one of the reasons for her continued amazing career is the devotion she inspires in her fans. Countless female musicians have all cited her work as an inspiration. She has participated in duets or provided guest vocals for several of their albums and some have returned the favour. Many artists have also covered her songs or sampled her work as part of their songs. More details will be given out after the draft is over. One band, in particular, covered the classic "Landslide", and earned Ms. Nicks a BMI Songwriters Award in 2003. The award is given to the songwriter of the track, regardless of the performer. "Landslide" also won the prestigious "Song Of The Year" award. From Wikipedia: QUOTE |

To open the 7th round, I am adding a saxophonist.
Known as "The Big Man", and best known for his work with the E Street Band, he has also recorded with many other artists and has had a number of musical projects of his own. The best known of these are his 1985 vocal duet with __________ on the hit single "You're a Friend of Mine", and his saxophone work on another hit single from the 1980's. In the mid-1990s, he recorded a Japan-only CD release called (on the now-defunct Dream Train Records) with singer/songwriter __________. In the 2000s, Clemons has been working with a group called The Temple of Soul, and has also recorded with a philanthropic teen band. The Big Man's sax parts are an easily recognized feature of the E Street sound, with the most famous being his long, elegiac solo during the song "Jungleland." With the band, he plays mostly tenor saxophone, but has also occasionally played soprano and baritone saxophone. He also plays various percussion instruments during songs that do not have a saxophone part. Ladies and gentlemen, it's my pleasure to introduce . . . Clarence Clemons! ![]() Clemons has a larger-than-life persona within the band. As a crowd favorite, he is always the last player mentioned during band introductions, usually after a lavish, over-the-top build-up. Clemons has also appeared in movies and on television making his debut in Martin Scorsese's 1977 musical, New York, New York in which he played a trumpet player. He can be seen as one of the "Three Most Important People In The World" in the 1989 film Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. In 1985, Clemons was a special guest star in an episode of Diff'rent Strokes, in which he played the role of Mr.Kingsley, a young saxophonist player helping Arnold Jackson to learn to play his sax. He has also been a guest voice in an episode of The Simpsons, played the role of Jack in Swing, and appeared in an episode of Damon Wayans' television show, My Wife And Kids as a musician and performed an original composition, co-written with bassist __________, called "One Shadow In The Sun". |

QUOTE (loxcane @ Aug 11 2008, 02:39 AM) OK, so I will give Istvan until 3:39 this afternoon to make his next pick (and the previous one) before selecting for GLG100. Also, dreakmur and Jeri both skipped the last round so we need confirmation if they are going to continue picking or close up shop. For the record, I am going the distance. |
